The expansion and renovation of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital of the Hellenic National Health Service (OKYpY) begins on January 20, with the awarded cost of the project, including its 12-year maintenance, amounting to € 6.549.000,00 + VAT.
The National Institute of Pediatrics and Health Care (OKYPY) stated in a statement that the project includes the renovation of the existing unit and its expansion. It provides, among other things, for the creation of intensive care wards with 26 incubators, 4 isolation wards and intermediate care wards with 24 incubators based on approved specifications, specially designed and upgraded spaces for the parents of young patients, which aim to make their visit to the NICU as comfortable as possible.
"On January 20, from 06:00 in the morning and during the works, which will last approximately 18 months, part of the hospital's parking lot will need to remain closed. OKYpY asks for the public's understanding for any inconvenience," it is noted. In case of not finding an available parking space, it is recommended to use the parking lot of the Strovolos municipal sports center, as stated.
The implementation of the project is a significant investment in upgrading health services, aiming to provide better service and ensure high quality patient-centered care, notes OKYpY.
This project is being implemented with the contribution of the Miracle Babies Association, to which OKYpY expresses its warm thanks for its practical and continuous support to Makarios Hospital. It also thanks the Municipality of Strovolos for kindly granting the use of the adjacent parking lot.
