The Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Yiannis Panagiotou, requested technical support from the International Labor Organization to strengthen the adequacy of wages and ensure decent pension benefits, in meetings on the sidelines of the General Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the Minister of Labor held meetings with special experts of the Organization on wages and pensions, as well as with the leaderships of international organizations of employers and workers.

"During the meetings of the Minister of Labor with the officials of the International Labor Organization, it was agreed to provide technical support to strengthen the adequacy of wages and ensure decent pension benefits, in the context of human-centered government policy and European guidelines," says the announcement Ministry.

In particular, it is noted that good practices regarding the strengthening of social dialogue, the extension of collective agreements, the determination of minimum wages and the future of the institution of automatic price indexation were discussed, while particular emphasis was placed on the promotion of pension reform in connection with the international experience and the examples of other countries.

At the same time, the Minister met with the Director General of the International Organization of Employers (IOE), Roberto Suarez Santos, accompanied by the Director General of OEB, Michalis Antoniou, and with the Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Luc Triangle, accompanied by the General Secretary of the SEC, Andrea Matsa, where the international challenges and perspectives for the present and the future of the labor market were discussed, in the context of tripartite social cooperation.

"In order to rebuild trust in the public, in political institutions and political processes, it is necessary to implement our goals to strengthen the adequacy of wages and ensure decent pension benefits, for more social justice in the everyday lives of citizens" , the Minister said in his statements.

In this direction, he said, "we are making effective use of the expertise and know-how of the International Labor Organization, and I am optimistic about the results of government policy, in accordance with the Governance Program of the President of the Republic".
