The Greek soup that shields our body

Our childhood years have the image of the grandmother who when she wanted to cook us something fast made the delicious trachana, of course she threw half a kilo of feta cheese inside, and we slept full and they were satisfied that we ate something healthy. The grandmothers may not have studied medicine, but they agree with the experts that trachanas is a miracle for our body.

With winter showing its teeth, and with its fear Covid-19 to overshadow the whole of Europe, the need for soups that protect us from colds and help the symptoms of a virus, is greater than ever.

Trachanas is made either with semolina or wheat flour, or with oatmeal or broken wheat.

Its taste is due to the milk or yogurt that is added, and it can have a sour or sweet taste.

Here are some of its benefits:

  • It is high in carbohydrates, fiber and protein
  • It has few calories compared to the satiety it causes.
  • Helps in calcium intake.
  • It is a very good source of iron.
  • Helps in proper bowel function.
  • It is rich in phosphorus that helps prevent osteoporosis.

Take advantage of the weather that suits the trachana and enjoy one of the most delicious, nutritious and healthy dishes of our place.
