A former flight attendant has revealed a surprisingly simple reason why your luggage can end up on the wrong flight.
According to Elizabeth, a former flight attendant who shares travel tips on TikTok, one of the most common reasons luggage is lost at airports is because travelers forget to remove old luggage tags. These tags, which are attached at check-in to direct your bag to the correct destination, can be confusing if you have a lot of tags left over from previous trips.
"People often don't remove the old tags from their luggage," explains Elizabeth. "When baggage handlers see a suitcase with multiple tags, it can cause confusion, resulting in your suitcase being sent to the wrong place."
While it may seem like common sense to remove outdated tags, it's easy to forget, especially if you're in a hurry. Elizabeth's advice is to always take a minute before your trip to make sure only the current tag is attached to your luggage.
Elizabeth also shared some other helpful air travel tips. For example, choosing a bag with a bold color or distinctive character can reduce the chances of it being mistaken for another. Additionally, being one of the last passengers to drop off your luggage can increase the chance that it will be unloaded first, minimizing the risk of it being accidentally grabbed by another passenger.
