With a total of 349.000 millionaires and 60 billionaires, New York is the richest country in the world and the second most expensive city to live in after Monaco.
According to the annual World's Wealthiest Cities Report 2024, the total wealth owned by residents of the Big Apple now exceeds $3 trillion.

In the list of richest cities, the USA leads with 11 cities in the top 50, while Tokyo, which was the richest city in the world a decade ago, has suffered a 5% decline in its resident population in the last ten years and is now in 3rd position with only 298.300 millionaires.
London, the richest city in the world for many years, continues to slide down the rankings and is now in 5th place with just 227.000 millionaires, 370 millionaires and 35 billionaires — a 10% drop over the past decade.
By contrast, Los Angeles, home to 212.100 millionaires, 496 millionaires and 43 billionaires, has risen two places over the 10-year period to 6th place and has seen a remarkable 45% increase in its wealthy population.
Paris, the richest city in continental Europe, maintains its 7th place in the ranking with 165.000 millionaire residents, while Sydney rises to 8th place with 147.000 millionaires, having experienced extremely strong growth in wealth over the past 20 years.
Beijing (125.600 millionaires) enters the Top 10 for the first time after a 90% increase in its millionaire population over the past decade, and although Hong Kong has fallen four places over the 10-year period to 9th. Shanghai (123.400), Shenzhen (50.300), Guangzhou (24.500) and Hangzhou (31.600) have all seen significant increases in their millionaire populations.

Monaco, arguably the world's leading safe haven for the ultra-rich, where the average wealth exceeds $20 million, is also the world's number one city by wealth per capita. More than 40% of the Mediterranean principality's residents are millionaires — the highest percentage of any city in the world. It also tops the list of the most expensive cities in the world, with apartment prices regularly exceeding $35.000 per square meter.
New York City ranks 2nd, with the average price of prime real estate being $28.400 per m2, followed by London ($26.500 per sq.m), Hong Kong ($25.800 per sq.m) , Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in France (USD 25.000 per sq m) and Sydney (USD 22.700 per sq m).
