Paris is known as "The City of Love".
After finishing fourth at the Olympics and setting a new European track and field record in the women's 3000m steeplechase, France's Alice Finot made sure it was a day to remember for many reasons.
She approached her boyfriend in the stands after the match and proposed in an emotional moment at the Stade de France, CNN reports.
Finot broke the existing European record by finishing in 8:58.67, behind Olympic champions Winfred Yavi, Peruth Chemutai and Faith Cherotich. It was the first time in the history of the event that four women finished the race in under 9 minutes.
"I'm 7 seconds off my personal best. This is a European record," said Alice Finot. I finally managed to express myself. You never know if you will be able to do this. There was a lot of encouragement before the race. It is a moment when you want to be present in the now. There is no second chance."
