Prison guards in Costa Rica have intercepted a rather unusual drug smuggler: a cat, who was trying to sneak into prison at night carrying drugs adapted to its body.
The small feline was carrying 235 grams of marijuana and 67 grams of crack, in small packages that were tied to her body inside a translucent plastic package.
He was arrested this month while balancing on an external prison fence in the Pocosy canton (northeast), the Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday.
A video released by the ministry and broadcast by media outlets shows a guard climbing a fence to catch the black and white cat, then placing the four-legged animal on a table, as a guard pets it while another carefully removes the packaged drugs using scissors.
"Thanks to the rapid intervention (of the guards), the cat was captured and the packages were withdrawn," preventing them from reaching the prisoners for whom they were intended, the ministry said.
The cat was surrendered to an animal protection organization.
