An extremely interesting and special experiment was done by the science experiment channel The Action Lab by deciding to see how an extremely loud sound sounds in an anechoic room.
The experiment was carried out in an anechoic chamber located at South Bank University in London. What exactly is this room? A specially constructed "echo-free" chamber that, as reported by the experimenters manages to "achieve almost perfect conditions of quiet". Essentially it can and does remove sound reflections from all surfaces, also blocking outside noises due to the walls being made of cement and large layers of foam. As for the sound it has, according to measurements it has a noise level of just 15,4dBA, which is somewhere between breathing and a whisper from a distance of about one meter.
Trying there loudest whistle
Science Experiment Channel tested the world's loudest whistle in this room, which can reach levels of up to 142dBA. To understand the sound, it means it sounds as loud as a gunshot or a plane taking off. So when they tried whistling into the room, they found that the whistling sound was still quite loud, but the remarkable aspect of the experiment was how quickly the sound simply disappeared.
To understand the difference, one can see what happens when the whistle is tested in the almost opposite environment – the reverberation chamber – which is designed to maximize sounds through deliberate reflection. When tested in this chamber the whistle is deafening and continues to blow much longer than it would normally.
