This is the brand new Mercedes-Benz C-Class (PICTURES)

In the last decade, the C-Class has been the model of Mercedes-Benz with the highest sales volume since, since the launch of the previous generation until today, more than 2,5 million C-Class have been sold. Now, Mercedes is making the official presentation of the fifth generation in the Saloon (sedan) and Estate (station-wagon) versions in order for the new model to repeat the successful commercial course of its predecessor.

The appearance of the C-Class, although it continues to be elegant, at the same time adopts elements from the newest members of the company's range with the star emblem. Thus, we see that in the cantilever, the luminaires are now thinner and have a new shape while the bumper is also new.

It is worth noting that the finish and the overall design of the grille differ in points depending on the equipment level of the model and in some of them the pattern stands out with many small "stars" of the brand. As for the rear, for the first time in the C-Class Saloon, one part of the lights is located on the trunk and the other on the body, while here too, the bumper has a different design depending on the equipment version.

The Saloon version is now 65mm longer than before (+49 Estate) at 4.751mm while the width and wheelbase have been increased by 10 and 25mm on both body versions to 1.820mm and 2.865mm. The height of the new C-Class is slightly lower at 1.438 mm and 1.455 mm respectively. Despite the increase in the dimensions of the car, Mercedes is able to announce that the drag coefficient remained the same at Cd 0,24 for the sedan and Cd 0,27 for the wagon. Finally, in terms of luggage space, the Estate now offers 30 liters more space than before and specifically from 490 to 1.510 liters (455 liters offered by the sedan).

The interior design could not be more hi-tech. This is something that becomes immediately apparent, since in front of the driver the eye falls on a 10,25 or 12,3 inch LCD screen in the role of a digital instrument panel and next to it in the center console there is a second screen, borrowed from S -Class, slightly facing the driver, measuring 9,5 or 11,9 inches.

And in this case, depending on the level of equipment, Mercedes offers great personalization options regarding the upholstery of the seats and the dashboard, the finish, etc. Like the new S-Class, the C-Class is equipped with the brand's second-generation MBUX infotainment system that now offers the driver the ability to control the car's functions easily and quickly. The visual pattern of the screens offers three options (Discreet, Sporty and Classic) while it can work in three modes (Navigation, Assistance and Service).

The engine range of the new C-Class consists exclusively of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines combined with the second-generation mild 48V hybrid system. In petrol, there are two available versions of the same engine at 1,5 and 2,0 liters with 170 horsepower (an additional 20 horsepower is provided by the electric system) and 258 horses (an additional 20 horsepower boost from the electric system). In diesel, the new mild hybrid engine produces 200 horsepower in the 220 d version and 265 in the 300 d version with the electric system offering in both cases an additional 20 horsepower in boost mode.

Later will follow the Plug-in hybrid versions prepared by the firm based on the four-cylinder M 254 engine in its two-liter version. The motor will be combined with a 25,4 kWh battery that will offer a range of close to 100 kilometers and will give power to the electric motor that will offer 129 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque. Plug-in hybrid versions based on the brand diesel engines will then be available.

The new Mercedes C-Class will be built at Mercedes-Benz Cars plants in Bremen, Germany for the European market, in Beijing and South Africa.
