The 14th Pancyprian Potato Festival takes place on the evening of Saturday, July 6, in the yard of the A Primary School in Avgorou.
In a press conference given on Tuesday, July 10, at the Ethnographic Museum of Avgoros, the Commonwealth Panagiotis Michailas stated that "thanks to the tireless efforts of the organizers, participants, sponsors and volunteers, the Pancyprian Potato Festival is growing every year customs and traditions of our community and the preservation of local gastronomy, Cypriot tradition and folk art. The toil of the farmers, in the last decades, ranked the potato of Kokkinochoria among the most famous Cypriot export products and gave impetus to the primary sector ".
Mr. Michailas promised that "the Community Council of Avgoros will continue to support the institution of the Pancyprian Potato Festival and to strengthen the rural world with actions and energies" while he wished the book "to be a useful tool for the housewife, the farmer, the the scientist, the scholar and the folklorist ".
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival Petros Karyos stated that "a large group of volunteers from various classes of people, such as farmers, potato growers, traders, cooks, confectioners and housewives undertook to carry out this great event held for the 6th year in a row. ».
He added that in the Festival area there will be an exhibition with various agricultural tools and machinery used by the ancients, while there will be traditional professions with the manufacture of various items such as baskets and coffins.
At the Festival there will be various kiosks where various traditional potato-based dishes will be prepared, while a group of volunteers will show the world how to make various other products such as creams, soaps, jams and even potato dessert.
The conference also presented the book entitled "Potato Teases" which was published by the Organizing Committee of the Potato Festival and contains more than 20 gourmet alternatives based on potatoes, recipes for jam, face creams and soaps, useful tips, ways to use and more interesting facts about the potato that is a product of Avgoros and Kokkinochoria.
