VIDEO: Today's Google doodle dedicated to International Women's Day

Today, March 8, 2020, we celebrate International Women's Day. International Women's Day has its roots in the protests of women in the early twentieth century in Europe and the United States, who demanded equal rights, better working conditions and the right to vote. It was instituted in 1977 by the UN, which called on all countries of the world to celebrate Women's Rights Day.

International Women's Day 2020 is a day of mobilization around the world to support equality, and to assess the position of women in society. Traditionally, women's rights groups and activists have been protesting around the world to make known their demands for women's empowerment, as well as to celebrate the movement's victories and achievements.

International Women's Day began as a celebration in the countries of Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet bloc. Today, in many areas, the day has lost its political meaning, and it has simply become an opportunity for men to express their love for women, as it does on Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.

In other areas, however, the original political significance of the day for supporting women's empowerment and equality remains strong. The celebration, after a long delay, was established in 1910 at the suggestion of the German socialist Clara Zetkin during the Second International and was first celebrated in 1911.
