Dust concentrations observed in the atmosphere in recent days in Cyprus have increased, resulting in affecting a large part of the population.
Speaking at Mesimeri kai Kati, the pulmonologist Dr. Haris Armeftis referred to allergies and diseases from dust.
He initially said that the main groups of the population affected by the dust are the vulnerable such as the elderly, children and patients with chronic diseases.
He went on to say, "When we say dust we mean inhalable particles that are very small in diameter and are dangerous because they can penetrate all the filtering mechanisms of the respiratory system and cause lung problems."
He explained that exposure to dust can also affect someone who does not have chronic health problems and cause them some headaches, fatigue and eye irritation.
In closing, he said, "If someone has severe symptoms due to the dust, he should be taken to the first aid immediately, while if he has mild symptoms, he should contact his doctor."
