Within days, the Security Council is expected to decide when to discuss the Republic of Cyprus's appeal against Turkey's threats to settle in Famagusta.
The request was submitted on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 1, by the Permanent Representative of the Republic to the UN, Ambassador Andreas Mavrogiannis, and will be discussed by the Council in closed consultation, on a date to be set soon.
It is expected that a presidential statement will be issued - for which unanimity is required - which will reaffirm all relevant resolutions on Varosi.
Meanwhile, regarding the Turkish threats to settle in Famagusta, the Cypriot Permanent Representative sent letters to the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Security Council, which will be circulated as official United Nations documents.
