The opening of the Exhibition of the Turkish Cypriot artist Umit Inatci under the auspices of the Mayor of Famagusta, Mr. Alexis Galanou, took place on Saturday, May 18 at the Cultural Center of our occupied city in Deryneia. The inauguration was also attended by Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis.
The exhibition entitled, Famagusta Obscura, will be open to the public until Thursday, May 23.
The artist states that the exhibition of his works entitled "Famagusta Obscura" aims to stimulate interest in the occupied city of Famagusta, which has been forcibly occupied by the Turkish army for almost half a century. He dedicates it to the memory of M. Jius Payata. Umit Inaci says that, together with Mr. Jius Payata, they had come up with the idea of organizing an art exhibition with exhibits by artists from both communities, which would be donated to the Municipality of Famagusta in order to create a future Museum of Contemporary Art. Umit Inaci invites all artists to donate their work to the Municipality of Famagusta so that the original idea can be turned into action. He makes the beginning himself by donating a project of his to the Municipality of Famagusta.
