Municipality of Famagusta: Event in honor of Alexis Galanos - Renaming of a hall in Deryneia (IMAGES)

The Municipality of Famagusta organized the posthumous event in honor of the late Mayor, Alexis Galanou on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 19:30 p.m. in the Panos Solomonidis Hall in Limassol.

Despite the restrictive measures, they honored the 2nd longest-serving Mayor of Famagusta in exile.

This event paid the minimum tribute as a sign of gratitude for its overall contribution to both the political and social life of Cyprus and the struggle for the settlement of the Cyprus problem and return to the queen, Famagusta.

They honored a man who served as Mayor of Famagusta for about twelve years from 2007 to 2019 where he died betrayed from his heart on July 15, 2019.

Greetings were addressed by Mr. Nikos Karoullas, Chairman of the Culture & Events Committee of the Municipality of Famagusta. The Mayor of Famagusta Dr. Simos Ioannou addressed his own greeting in honor of Alexis Galanos.

The main speaker of the event was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulidis, who presented in more detail the life and work of the Blessed Mayor with known and unknown aspects of his life and career.

The wife of the former Mayor Mrs. Alexandra Galanou recited one of her own poems dedicated to her beloved husband entitled: "A Sunday that was not a Holiday".

The family of Alexis Galanos was offered, in honor of him, the sculpture of Filippos Giapanis "Freedom" and there was a rebuttal on behalf of the family by his son Christos Galanos.

In honor of the Mayor, the Municipal Council in a meeting dated March 17, 2022 decided to rename the Event Hall of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Famagusta in Deryneia to "Alexis Galanou Event Hall".

The event closed with a short artistic program with favorite songs of the Mayor by the Choir of the Municipality of Famagusta under the artistic direction of the conductor and composer Nikos Vihas.
