Tatar insists on two separate states - Invasion of enclosed Famagusta continues

The Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, spoke about unacceptable demands of the Greek Cypriot side, which are intensifying, in a written statement in response to statements by the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulidis, noting that "the model which provides for the cooperation of two sovereign states is put on the agenda by us as a new idea, and will be put on the table in the informal conference and we will not go back to it ".

Regarding the informal 5 + 1 press conference, Mr. Anastasiadis said that the UN parameters should not be changed, that the Turkish side's plans for opening the closed city of Varosia should be terminated, as well as Turkey's activities in the East. Mediterranean, said Mr. Tatar, noting that this attitude is unacceptable.

He said that the fact that Mr. Anastasiadis "sets such conditions", in his expression, means the continuation of the status quo in Cyprus and aims to strengthen the informal conference.

The Turkish leader pointed out that the parameters of the UN, which have been on the agenda for years, have not produced results to date, and that no agreement can be reached with these parameters.

He said that insisting on these parameters means a deadlock. He added that the initiative of the Turkish side for Varosia and its implementation continue, and noted that "we will not succumb to the conditions" of the Greek Cypriot side on this issue.

He said that the actions of the Turkish side in the Eastern Mediterranean are aimed at protecting the rights and interests of Turkey and the pseudo-state, and that they will not leave the energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean only to the Greek Cypriot side and will not allow the violation of Turkish rights.

Responding to a statement by Foreign Minister Christodoulidis that there is no other solution than the federation, Mr. Tatar advocated a solution model based on the cooperation of two sovereign states with equal rights, which coexist side by side.

He said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had said in a statement after the failure of the Crans Montana talks that "due to the intransigence of the Greek side" - according to Tatar - new ideas for the Cyprus.

Mr. Tatar said that they expect that the Greek Cypriot side "will abandon an outdated mentality and unacceptable conditions" and that it will help pave the way for dialogue.

He pointed out that Turkey, which is the largest and most powerful country in the region, as he said, also supports a solution model of two equal sovereign states and that "this is the most realistic solution model that can be to the benefit of Cyprus and the region." .
