G. Karoullas: "It is necessary to continue church services in our occupied churches"

In his letters to the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis and Archbishop Chrysostomos II, DISY MP George Karoullas notes that there is a gap left over from our Greek Orthodox culture and our religious tradition through the churches that take place in several churches. through the important work carried out by the Bicommunal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage.

According to the MP, "this minimal measure of breaking the occupation offers the minimal but capital opportunity to reconnect each scattered community around the symbol of the church, the Orthodox church and our religious tradition in general, making each church in the occupied areas of historical importance, a testimony to our characteristics in our ancestral homes and consequently to our survival in our homeland ”.

Both with the ecclesiastics and with the efforts of repair-maintenance of the temples, the possibility of connecting yesterday with today, especially of the new generation, with the future is offered, notes Mr. Karoullas in his letters to President Anastasiadis and Archbishop Chrysostomos. According to him, the repair and maintenance efforts go through the contacts developed by the displaced with the Turkish Cypriots. In this context, the most important work carried out by the Bicommunal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage is recognized.

Mr. Karoullas points out that one tool that is currently being introduced is the method of self-financing through the Bicommunal Committee. To this end, he calls on the state and the church to contribute and support in every way.

"This effort is necessary and we must all support and strengthen it. "Otherwise, the complete desolation of the temples and our alienation from our ancestral homes is in front of us with all the consequences in the struggle for the solution of the Cyprus problem", concludes the Famagusta MP in his letters.
