The earthquake in Turkey caused a small tsunami in Famagusta (PHOTO)

The deadly earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria caused small tsunamis in two regions of Turkey and in Famagusta.

Speaking to Trito, the Director of the Geological Survey Department, Christodoulos Hatzigeorgiou, said that if an underwater landslide were to occur, it would cause a devastating tsunami that would directly affect Cyprus.

He said that at three past 17, the first earthquake was registered in Turkey near the border with Syria, measuring 7,8 on the Richter scale. He also said at three on the 28th there was a strong aftershock of 6,7 magnitude and then at least 6 aftershocks above 5 on the Richter scale.

Mr. Hatzigeorgiou emphasized that the intense post-earthquake activity continues.
