The African asylum seeker, who was arrested for sexually abusing an 80-year-old tourist in Ayia Napa, was referred to a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta.
It is recalled that the accused was arrested on December 14 following a complaint by the 80-year-old woman, who stated that the African man attacked and sexually assaulted her while she was in Ayia Napa on vacation.
The defendant stated that he was 17 years old and resided in a juvenile facility. According to information, after laboratory tests carried out, the age of the accused varies between 21 and 23 years.
The African defendant faces charges of sexual assault by penetration, coercion, abduction, kidnapping and indecent assault.
The Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta will meet on January 19.
