Ayia Napa: Karousos and Zannettou dived into the MUSAN Underwater Museum (PICTURES)

The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettou, along with the Minister of Transport, Giannis Karousos, a representative of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, and the artist Taylor deCai, at MUSAN. Everyone said they were excited about the experience!

The official opening of MUSAN will take place on July 31, in the presence of the artist himself, Jason deCaires Taylor, who is already in Cyprus and is putting the finishing touches. The sculptures and works in combination with the marine environment will compose a special setting, creating a unique experience, which is not offered anywhere else in Cyprus or in our neighboring countries.

The international media, whose representatives are expected in Cyprus to record the inauguration and see the works of MUSAN up close, also showed intense interest in the underwater museum. The journalists and media representatives are hosted in Cyprus by the Municipality of Ayia Napa in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism. The institutions have made sure that the visitors enjoy the beauties of our island, with a fully organized, creative and hospitable program, so that they leave with the best impressions and transfer their positive experiences to the public of their countries.

At the new Museum of Underwater Sculpture in Ayia Napa, visitors-divers and swimmers with masks and flippers will have the opportunity to tour an underwater forest, the first of its kind in the world, hence the great interest already shown by organized groups divers who want to come to Ayia Napa to explore the museum.

In the museum one can admire the symbiotic relationship between nature and art, through the 93 works of art of the famous representative of the eco-art movement, Jason deCaires Taylor. The projects have been designed in a way and materials that attract marine life, while they were placed at various depths, between 6 and 10 meters, thus creating ideal conditions for the development of marine life at all levels.

The sculptures are made of inert materials, with neutral pH, so as not to adversely affect nature.

They are located in a sandy area, 200 meters from the coastline of Ayia Napa and it is expected that in a short period of time the biodiversity of the area will be enriched, thanks to the museum.
