Agia Napa/Macronissos: A breath of optimism o July for WaterSports – Which sports do tourists prefer and which do the locals prefer (VIDEO)

With the mercury rising ever higher and only a month left to end summer in Cyprus, tourists and locals alike are flocking to the beaches.

Summer is synonymous with swimming in the sea and playing in the water, and of course the beach is "paradise" for lovers of water sports.

Sigma's camera with Journalist Andri Florentzou was at one of the most popular beaches in the province of Famagusta, Makronissos beach, and spoke with the President of WaterSports on that beach, Varnavas Kaikki.

Mr. Kaikkis informed us about the situation this year after the two previous years which were nightmares for the industry due to the lack of tourism.

According to Mr. Kaikkis, the situation at the beginning of the season was very difficult with the first two months - March and April - being "lost" due to the war in Ukraine and the loss of Russian tourists from our country. However, July was a breath of optimism for water sports as tourists increased and the mercury hit red. Cypriots were added to the July clientele.

Those interested can choose between a multitude of water sports such as speedboats - one for the hot air balloon and three for the inflatables -, bananas, waterskys, waveboards, armchairs, sliders, bicycles and canoes.

When asked which water sport stands out, Mr. Kaikkis replied that the armchair stands out, adding that the best customers are the British, whom he even described as "crazy" for water sports.

Mr. Kaikkis also talked about the prices of water sports which start from 13 euros and can reach up to 90 depending on the preference of each customer.

It should be noted that it is necessary for the issuance of licenses for the professional to possess all the required safety certificates as well as for all vessels to be certified by commercial shipping in order to be operational.
