Ayia Napa: Arrest of a Turkish asylum seeker for kidnapping and beating

The detention of a 41-year-old asylum seeker from Turkey for a period of 8 days was ordered yesterday 14/9/22 by the District Court of Famagusta in Paralimni, who had been arrested in the morning of the same day for the offenses of 1) Kidnapping, 2) Actions intended to cause serious of bodily harm, 3) Assault causing grievous bodily harm, 4) Assault causing actual bodily harm and 5) Threatening, offenses which were committed on the night of 12/9/22 in Paralimni.

Specifically, on the evening of 12/9/22 in Ayia Napa, the 41-year-old allegedly forcibly forced a 47-year-old from the United Kingdom, a permanent resident of Cyprus, into his vehicle and then took him against his will to the apartment of the 46-year-old from Norway in Paralimni, with which the 47-year-old maintained a bond in the recent past.

Then the 41-year-old illegally and forcibly entered the 46-year-old's apartment, holding the 47-year-old by the neck and in her presence began to beat him on the head with his hands and feet while he attacked and beat the 46-year-old as well.

The 46-year-old succeeded and called the police, and upon the arrival of the patrol vehicle in sight of the lighthouses, the 41-year-old jumped from the balcony and ran away.

An arrest warrant was obtained against the 41-year-old on 13/9/22 and he was wanted.

The 47-year-old was taken by ambulance to the General Hospital of Famagusta in Paralimni and it was found that he had a subdural hematoma between the skull and the brain, a fracture of the sphenoid bone and a left pericoccal hematoma. The 46-year-old suffered an injury and swelling on her right hand. The 47-year-old was detained for hospitalization while the 46-year-old received first aid and was released.
