A suspect was arrested again for a murder that took place in Ayia Napa in August 2016, with the victim being 22-year-old British George Law.
According to the BBC, one of the two suspects, Mehmet Akpinar, was arrested again in the occupied territories, but, as they reported to the family of the unfortunate Briton, there is no hope that he will be tried for the murder of George Law.
It should be recalled that the two were arrested by the occupying authorities for the crime of violating the military zone in the occupied territories and not for the murder, while they were sentenced to 3 months in prison. The Cypriot authorities had requested their extradition, but the answer was no.
Although the family's lawyers hoped that the occupying authorities would "do the right thing", an e-mail from the Foreign Office informed them that "Unfortunately, there is no prospect of Akpinar being extradited to the Republic of Cyprus from the north." He will return to Turkey as soon as he has served his sentence. "This is because there is no extradition treaty between the occupying authorities and a country other than Turkey."
The father of the unfortunate Briton told the BBC: "I can not believe it. We are devastated. "We tried to be positive, but that is outrageous."
The environment of the unfortunate 22-year-old states that "the Cypriot authorities must give all the evidence they have against the suspect in the occupied areas".
