Ayia Napa: "They were beaten" to work illegally - Arrest of two persons

Another two cases of illegal employment and illegal employment emerged during checks on properties in Ayia Napa.

Specifically, during an inspection of a beer bar in Ayia Napa, around 0020 on 25/7/22, members of the Famagusta Crime Investigation Department identified a 24-year-old man, a third-country national, an asylum seeker, working in the premises illegally and specifically without hold an employment contract stamped by the Department of Labor.

The 24-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal employment and was then taken to the Ayia Napa Police Station, where after being interrogated, he was accused in writing of the crime of illegal employment and released.

From the tests carried out, the 24-year-old named a specific Greek Cypriot as his employer and actions are being taken to locate him. A case for illegal employment of the 24-year-old will be investigated against him.

In another property, specifically in a pizzeria in Ayia Napa, during an inspection carried out by members of the OPE of Famagusta, ten minutes after midnight on 25/7/22, a 22-year-old man, a political asylum seeker, was found to be working in the property illegally and specifically without holding an employment contract sealed by the Labor Department.

The 22-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal employment and was then taken to the Ayia Napa Police Station, where after being interrogated, he was accused in writing of the crime of illegal employment and released.

The 22-year-old indicated as his employer a Greek Cypriot man aged 50, who after being called to the Agia Napa Police Station was accused in writing of the crime of illegally employing the 22-year-old.

The two cases are being investigated by the Ayia Napa Police Station.
