AGIA NAPA: Signature collection started for merging with Sotira and Liopetri

The Organized Ensembles, the Church and the Local Bodies of Ayia Napa will proceed with the collection of signatures by their members, which will then be handed over to the Minister of Interior, as a first measure to express their strong position and desire to the Ministry. for the merger of the Municipality of Ayia Napa with the Municipality of Sotiras and the Community of Liopetri.

This was decided during yesterday's meeting (Thursday, December 12, 2019) of the Mayor / Deputy Mayor Mr. Christos Zannetos with representatives of all local parties, organized groups and organizations of Ayia Napa, which took place in his office.

During the meeting, Mr. Zannetou informed them extensively about the study of the Ministry, which as it is known talks about the merger of the four Municipalities of the Province, about the actions that the Municipality has taken so far to prevent this decision, but also about them. planned in the near future, such as the organization of a provincial rally, to which will be invited to attend government officials and all MPs of the Province.

The Mayor of Ayia Napa recommended to everyone that the possibility for autonomy of the Municipality, something that was the most ideal, but it turned out that it would be very difficult, as it is ideal for each Municipality to be able to decide its future through the conduct referendums. "What remains, he said, and we will insist on it vigorously and decisively, is our desired and consensual merger with the Municipality of Sotiras and the Community of Liopetri."

Then Mr. Zannetou gave the floor to each one individually to express the views and positions of the body he represents. All expressed their concern that the merger of the four Municipalities will have negative consequences for Ayia Napa and supported the proposal of the Municipality, assuring that they will be by his side even if necessary with dynamic mobilizations, until the goal is achieved. put.
