Ayia Napa creates the first Underwater Park in the Mediterranean with a well-known artist

The first Underwater Museum of the Mediterranean will take place in Ayia Napa.

An announcement from the municipality states that a unique project will be held in Ayia Napa, the first Underwater Museum in the Mediterranean by world-renowned artist Jason deCaires Taylor.

The project will be presented by the Mayor of Ayia Napa Giannis Karousos, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis, the Officer of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research and Implementation Coordinator of the project George Pagiatas and the British artist Jason de Paraskevi 14 at 10:45, in the POED hall, in Nicosia.

The Underwater Museum will be created in the Municipality of Ayia Napa and specifically in Pernera beach and will be the first underwater Museum of Mediterranean sculpture. In an underwater space ten meters deep, the British artist will create over seventy underwater statues among dozens of artificial organic trees and underwater plants, to create the first underwater forest in the world!

The work of the Underwater Museum is included in the projects that have been approved for the development of the Municipality of Ayia Napa and is expected to be a global point of interest in the context of upgrading and diversifying the tourist product of Ayia Napa.

A few words about the artist

Artist Jason Decaires Taylor (www.underwatersculpture.com) was born in Dover, UK and grew up between Europe and Asia. Since the late 1990s, he has been systematically exploring the interaction between art, the protection of the marine environment and society.

In 2006 the artist created the world's first underwater sculpture park off the coast of Grenada and his works were listed in the top 25 wonders of the world by National Geographic. Other important works of his to date with his sculptures have been placed at sea in Cancun in Mexico (2009), in the Bahamas (2014), in Bali, (2016), in Lanzarote (2017), in Norway (2018).
