Ayia Napa received the bust of the Greek Nobel Prize-winning poet George Seferis

The bust of the Greek Nobel Prize-winning Poet George Seferis was received today, Wednesday, January 8, 2020, by the creator of the work, Mr. Maria Kyprianou, by the Mayor of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou.

The project, measuring 90cm x 75cm x 80cm (size which is 50% larger than the physical size of an ordinary bust), is made of clay and is a donation to the Municipality of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the personal initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. . Nikos Christodoulidis, who had announced the offer during the 4th Seferis Symposium that took place recently at the Municipal Museum "Thalassa".

Receiving the work, Mr. Zannetou thanked the author for the excellent work he created and the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the implementation of his commitment to donate his Ministry to the Municipality of Ayia Napa this important work.

"The bust," he added, "will be placed on the facade of the Center for Sefer Studies, which will be housed at a later stage in a special extension area of ​​the Municipal Museum" Thalassa ". As it is already known, the Center was recently inaugurated in a temporary space and in it there is the personal Archive of the Former Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus and current Professor at the University of Naples Mr. George George and the Scholar Mr. Dimitris Daskalopoulos ".

The creator of the work, Mrs. Maria Kyprianou, stated that it is a great honor for her and at the same time a great responsibility for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assign the painting of the bust of George Seferis, who as we all know belongs to the world elite of great poets.
"That's why he explained, 'I tried as much as possible to approach his form so that it resembles the poet, but at the same time I wanted to do it in my own way so that it does not follow the standards of the classical and strict bust.'

The President of the International Sculpture Symposium Mr. Kikis Konstantinou expressed his satisfaction and praised the Cypriot artist for the excellent work as she said.

The result of this work stated "justifies me for the suggestion I have made to the Municipal Council for the participation of Cypriot Artists in the Sculpture Symposium.
