Ayia Napa golf course in Cape Greco approved by the Ministry

Fourteen state-owned plots of land, with a total area of 104.000 sq.m., were leased to the company Ayia Napa Forest Golf ltd, with the aim of creating a golf course in the Ayia Napa forest (Cape Greco) which is part of the "Nature 2000" protection areas.

According to today's publication of the newspaper Phileleftheros, it is reported that the application of the company, behind which are hoteliers of Ayia Napa, was studied during the meeting of the competent Ministerial Committee for the allocation of state / forest land on 16/11/2017 and was submitted to the Ministry Council, which on 19/12/2017 decided in principle the approval of the lease of these state lands "for tourist purposes and specifically for their integration with adjacent forest and private land for a smooth and uniform development of the area and the use for the creation of a golf course with its related facilities ".

The golf course that will be built will be of international standards and is estimated to cost about € 12 million. The state land will be integrated with forest, as well as with land owned by the company, for the construction of a hotel, villas, restaurants and shops. The construction of the golf course is considered vital for the free area of Famagusta as, as it is estimated, it will attract a large number of tourists engaged in this sport.

It is worth mentioning that the decision to build a golf course in the area of Ayia Napa, with the lease of forest and state land, was taken by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on 26/2/2014, "in the context of the policy aimed at making Cyprus more attractive tourist destination through the development of the quality of its tourism product, as well as the policy for job creation ".
