Ayia Napa Mayor receives food from AKEL Local Committee for Lebanon

Dozens of boxes of dry food were received today (Thursday, August 13) by the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Christos Zannettou from the Local Committee of AKEL, which responded to the call of the Municipality to collect food to support the thousands of homeless people in Lebanon who have fled an explosion on August 4, following the announcement by the Office of the Commissioner for Volunteering and Non-Governmental Organizations for aid to Lebanon.

Mr. Zannettou warmly thanked the AKEL Local Committee of Ayia Napa for its assistance to the effort of the Municipality and the Church, emphasizing that even the smallest aid is very great for the people of Lebanon, a people with whom, as he said, the Ayia Napa has a special brotherly relationship, since it has been twinned for a few years with the city of Byblos.
"I was sure he noted that both our citizens and the organized groups of our Municipality would generously offer their help because we are a people with philanthropic feelings, who know from difficulties, having experienced tragic situations such as the Turkish one. Invasion in 1974, Marie et al.

He also assured that the Municipality will continue the effort to provide as much help as possible and expressed the hope that the neighboring country to overcome this critical and tragic situation that it is experiencing as soon as possible.

For her part, the representative of AKEL Ayia Napa and Municipal Councilor Mrs. Aimili Xydia stated that the Local Committee AKEL "actually supports the effort of the Municipality to help our fellow human beings in Lebanon, so we willingly responded."

The people said they offered enough quantities with products that have been requested for this "we called today the Mayor to hand over the aid that has been collected".
As AKEL Ayia Napa, he added "we are aware of the tragic event that has happened in our neighboring Lebanon and we decided to support the effort of the Municipality of Ayia Napa to collect dry food and baby milk".

"So we called on our liaisons," said Ms. Xydia, "to support this effort in solidarity with our fellow human beings, whom we thank for their response."
Concluding, Mrs. Aimili Xydia wished as it is the last time such tragic events occur.
