TEVEA: Go to the golf course in Ayia Napa

The Famagusta Tourist and Industrial Company (TEVEA) calls on the government and all relevant bodies to find alternative ways to proceed with the construction of a golf course in the free province of Famagusta.

In a statement, the company referred to "yesterday's reports stating that the Report of Adequate Impact Assessment in the Protected Areas of the Natura 2000 Network, Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Special Protection Zone (SPA) National Forest Park (SNC) the creation of a golf course in the province of Famagusta ".

TEVEA calls on "all stakeholders to find ways and solutions for the project to move forward. We also call on the competent Environmental Authority as it proposes the appropriate measures, in order to find a way to proceed with such an important project for the Province of Famagusta and at the same time to protect the environment ".

As TEVEA, the announcement continues, "we believe that such projects will be a factor of significant socio-economic and cultural upgrade in the product of the region, something that is found in the Study of Adequate Environmental Impact Assessment, as submitted to the Department of Environment in April 2018 ».

Therefore, he added, "we believe that the implementation of such projects as crucial for the province of Famagusta, which will create hundreds of new jobs and contribute to the economic product, should be encouraged." In fact, in case of detection of negative effects on the environment, then the competent Environmental Authority must proceed to find alternative solutions, so that on the one hand the protected environment of the area is preserved and on the other hand sustainable development projects are created ".

The announcement also states that "on January 15, 2019, during the presentation of the project of Paralimni Marina, the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis stressed, among other things, the importance of the project of creating a golf course in Cape Greco. In particular, the President said that "for the golf course in question, we are making efforts to see how some problems that arise due to the area that has been declared a forest area can be overcome, but with a redesign I hope that they will be overcome."

TEVEA "calls on the government to find alternative ways to promote the implementation of the project and not to remain on paper, another project that would offer a significant revitalization in the semi-occupied province of Famagusta."
