Five of the members of the Municipal Council of Deryneia expressed their dissatisfaction with the scenario under discussion in the Interior Committee of the House of Representatives regarding the creation of five local authorities in free Famagusta in the proposed bill of local government. Specifically, the new scenario, which seems to have been proposed by political parties in the House Committee of the House of Representatives, provides for the creation of five local authorities consisting of the merger of Ayia Napa, Sotira and Liopetri based in Ayia Napa, the unification of Deryneia, Frenaros Acheritou based in Deryneia and the stay of the existing communities of Avgoros and Achnas but also of the Municipality of Paralimni as autonomous entities.
In their joint statement tonight, the municipal councilors Annita Lilli, Loukas Polykarpou, Christos Ttofias, Nikos Charalambous and Andreas Grigoriou expressed their strong reaction to the scenario for local government reform with five local authorities.
This announcement:
We would like to publicly express our dissatisfaction with the outcome of today's 13.01.2021 session - teleconference of the Municipal Council which had as its sole subject the forthcoming reform of the Local Government and specifically the scenario that was left to be leaked by the Ministry of Interior and concerns its unification Of our Municipality with the communities of Frenaros and Acheritos.
5 of the 8 municipal councilors:
They strongly expressed their disagreement with the scenario under discussion and shared with the other members of the Board and the Mayor their concerns and concerns in the event that in the end the reform for our Municipality proceeds in the specific wrong way.
We consider after mature thought that the scenario is clearly a setback and harms our Municipality Economically, Socially and Culturally. It deprives Deryneiotis of opportunities and possible benefits that he would have if the scenario of creating a Unified Municipality was promoted.
We want to emphasize in the most categorical way that we will do everything possible from our hand so that Deryneiotis and his children can have the right to dream of better days than the ones that the invasion of 1974 brought to our semi-occupied place. If the scenario that is promoted passes, it is a gravestone for our Municipality and for that we have nothing else to do but to shout loudly and freely that it WILL NOT PASS.
If necessary, we will return with an analysis of the above at a later stage to explain the reasons that we have the specific view of each Municipal Councilor separately.
At this stage we are all united by our common love for Deryneia!
