Mayor of Deryneia: He sent a letter to PtD to promote infrastructure projects

The Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, sent a letter to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, with the aim of promoting infrastructure projects in the province of Famagusta and rural Deryneia.

In the letter, dated February 16, Mr. Karagiannis mentions in relation to the highlighting and upgrading of the Medieval Cave of Agios Konstantinos and the Underground Aqueduct that "we have not received any response to cover the cost of cleaning/maintenance of the Medieval Monument, which is important historical monument highlighting Deryneia's ties with the source of life, water".

Regarding the Creation of a Regional Swimming Pool of Olympic standards in the province of Famagusta, Mr. Karagiannis states that "no sponsorship has been granted to the Municipality of Deryneia to carry out a relevant study of the viability of the project in question, which will promote sports and medical tourism in the province Famagusta, attracting tourists from neighboring and other European countries".

Regarding the Strovilion area of Deryneia, he notes that "no sponsorship has been granted to the Municipality of Deryneia for the maintenance of the few houses in the area, nor has a relevant fund been released through the Famagusta Provincial Administration for the creation of a small square area, as a first step in upgrading this isolated and abandoned area".

In relation to the Deryneia - Frenarous Road / Local Plan of Paralimniou - Deryneia - Ayia Napa he points out that "there is no development, since we are waiting for the inclusion of the road that joins the Municipality of Deryneia with the Community of Frenarous in the urban planning projects. The publication of the joint Local Plan of Paralimni - Deryneia - Ayia Napa is delayed, as a result of which there is a reaction both from the citizens and from the land development professionals and businessmen of the area", he adds.

Regarding the Housing Plan for the Revitalization of Mountainous, Critical and Disadvantaged Areas, Mr. Karagiannis states that "We are expecting the publication of this Plan for 2024, which we hope will be upgraded and improved compared to the previous one in 2023".

Mr. Karagiannis calls on the President of the Republic to "give instructions for the promotion of the above requests and to inform the Municipality of Deryneia of the relevant actions by the agencies involved".

The letter was shared with the Ministers of Interior, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Education, Sports and Youth, Transport, Communications and Works, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and the Deputy Minister to the President.
