Mustafa Akinci visited the Deryneia roadblock (VIDEO + IMAGES)

I hope that conditions of a permanent peace are created in Cyprus and that we reach a future where we will not need roadblocks, said the Turkish leader, Mustafa Akinci from the Deryneia roadblock, who visited today.

Watch the video from the visit recorded by Famagusta.News camera:

As reported in the occupied territories, Mr. Akinci went there to inspect the checkpoint and as he stated "it is not difficult to build conditions in Cyprus for a future of peace and prosperity without the need for roadblocks. "And this is done by showing both sides respect for mutual rights and political equality."

From the numbers of crossings at the Deryneia - Famagusta roadblock, said the Turkish leader, it seemed that this was a necessity and he thanked those who contributed to its opening, expressing joy that he also took part in this effort.

Mustafa Akinci noted that yesterday he visited Apliki / Zodiac signs and today Deryneia / Famagusta and this is the first time he does this after the two roadblocks were opened.

From November 12, 2018, he said, until January 31, 2019 from the Deryneia / Famagusta roadblock, 26.578 E / C crossings were recorded from "south" to "north" and 14.692 T / Cs from "north" to "south". He also said that 20.306 third-country nationals spent the same period from "south" to "north".

These numbers will increase during the spring months, Akinci predicted, saying the numbers show the roadblock was a necessity.

Mr. Akindzi was accompanied at the roadblock by the "commander" and other officials of the "security forces", the "mayor" of Famagusta and members of the Famagusta Initiative.

Then, as reported, the Turkish leader visited and inspected the port of Famagusta and the quarry used for the maintenance of the walls of Famagusta. He was accompanied by the co-chair of the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, Ali Tunjai, and the coordinator of the Technical Committees, Meltem Onurkan Samani.

Mr. Akinci wished that the difficulties that exist with finding the yellow stone for the needs of conservation be overcome soon and that the work of the Committees for the cultural heritage of the place that are monuments and for the whole international community can proceed.

He was informed, he said, about the difficulties from the report given to him on the progress of the Technical Committees and he wanted to see for himself what was happening. "It is not only the walls in Famagusta, but also the walls in Nicosia that need to be cleaned of wild grass in a scientific way and for this a tender has been announced," he said, noting that the protection of the cultural heritage, the walls, is very important.
