Famagusta District: Hundreds of complaints in the context of road checks

A total of 538 complaints from a total of 1826 traffic inspections were made yesterday as part of a large-scale operation as part of the European week of truck and bus inspections in Larnaca and Famagusta, in collaboration with Police, British Base Police and Road Transport and Labor Inspection Departments.

Of the violations found and reported, the 131 complaints for exceeding the speed limit, the 54 complaints for not using a seat belt and non-use of a helmet by motorcyclists, the 20 complaints for mobile phone use by drivers, and the 32 complaints for violations traffic lights and lights.

Also noteworthy are the 23 complaints for driving a vehicle without a certificate of suitability - MOT, the six complaints of drivers who were not covered by an insurance certificate, the four complaints of drivers who do not have a driver's license, the 73 complaints for driving a vehicle without a license and the five complaints who were driving vehicles whose registration in the TOM has been deleted.

During inspections for the mechanical condition of vehicles, 10 vehicles were found to have damage to the traffic lights, 11 vehicles that had worn tires, while another 13 vehicles had tinted windows in violation of the law, with the members of the Police making corresponding complaints. For violations related to the use of tachographs in trucks and buses, a total of 115 complaints were made, while four complaints were made to truck drivers, for cargo transportation in violation of the law.

Finally, during the inspection operation, three cars, a motorcycle and a moped were detained for examination purposes, while it is worth noting that the members of the Police provided assistance to four drivers, after a mechanical failure of their vehicles.

According to the Police, the operation is part of the actions of the European week of information and controls of trucks and buses, which aims at the prevention of serious and fatal road collisions, the consolidation of road conscience and the increase of the safety in the road network.

The focus of the inspections was to address infringements that have been proven to be among the leading causes of serious and fatal road collisions, such as speeding, skipping seat belts and helmets, using a mobile phone while driving, and of traffic signals and lights.

At the same time, specialized members of the Police, with the assistance of the officers of the Road Transport Department and the Labor Inspection Department, carried out checks on the mechanical condition of vehicles, including the number of trucks and buses, as well as the documents of vehicles and drivers, including of professional drivers.

The inspection operation started at 06.00 and ended at 10.00 in the evening, with the members of the Police, the British Bases, the TOM and the Labor Inspection Department, carrying out a total of 538 complaints in a total of 1826 traffic inspections.

On the part of the Police, members of the Larnaca Traffic Police, members of the Famagusta Traffic Police, and members of the Road Accident Prevention Unit - OPOD, the Special Group of Motorcyclists - EOMO, and the Mechanical Control Branch of the Trocha Department took part in the operation.
