Famagusta Mayor for Varosia: "Several opportunities were lost"

We have no choice but to believe that in the end a solution will be found and this will stop, said to KYPE the Mayor of Famagusta, Simos Ioannou, saying that for the return of the occupied city "several opportunities were lost that brought us to this situation today".

Regarding the actions that will be taken after the opening of a new part of the fenced area, Mr. Ioannou said that a delegation of the Municipality of Famagusta will go for contacts in London on November 22-25, where it will have meetings with members of the British Parliament and Foreign Office. Next Tuesday, he added, at the annual meeting of the British Famagusta Association in a room of the British Parliament, the member of the Municipal Council, Andreas Kazamias will be present to inform them.

Also, after consultation with the MEPs of Cyprus, he stated that the Municipality will send a letter that will be distributed to all MEPs. As soon as the conditions with the pandemic allow it, he added, a delegation of the Municipality will go to the European Parliament for a live briefing on the issue of Famagusta.

Simos Ioannou reminded that he had previously spoken of "salamiization", saying that he expected that Turkey and the regime in the occupied territories would move forward again in Varosi. "The pressure on Turkey must be continuous. We need to find a way to start the talks. "Time works for them, not for us."

If they continue what they are doing in the enclosed area, there will be no territorial or other issue to discuss, added the Mayor of Famagusta.
