Famagusta District: Complaint of students to a Commissioner of Administration against principals

The Pancyprian Student Coordinating Committee (PSEM) sent a letter to the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, complaining to the Principal of a Secondary School in Nicosia about the use of bad characterizations against the president of the organized students during the resolution.

Honorable Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child,

Honorable Commissioner of Administration,

With this letter we want to express our dissatisfaction and condemn the behavior of the Principals of two schools who in an authoritarian and anti-democratic way forbade the students to exercise their right to vote in the referendum announced by PSEM on January 29.

The authoritarian behavior of the Nicosia School Principal (named) and the School Principal in Famagusta (named) is unacceptable and we denounce it to you in order for you to take the necessary action. The unacceptable behavior of these two principals offends democracy, but also the public school itself.

As the student body since 1994, we have every right to hold referendums, surveys and events related to student issues and those in charge must respect us. Especially since we informed all the schools in time about our actions and in fact the vast majority of the directorates were supportive in the effort to make the process run smoothly.

In addition, we call on you to conduct an investigation into the Director of the Nicosia School, who not only banned the referendum, but also verbally insulted and attacked the PSEM representative who was at the school to hand over the ballots to the students of the Central Student Council. .

There are testimonies about this fact and about the expressions that the specific principal uttered towards students such as "idiot", "idiot", "party dog", etc. Such behaviors do not fit even in public schools. This is the umpteenth time that this principal expresses his anti-democratic and authoritarian behavior and we hope that even now he will be removed from school once and for all.
