Testimonies for the psychological pressure of the late employee of the Famagusta Land Registry, who lost her life last Thursday, are revealed through a new announcement by the Pancyprian Equality Guild.
After an urgent letter was requested to the Chief of Police to launch an investigation into the death of the unfortunate woman, the union returned with a new statement stating that information about the incident was given by colleagues of the deceased, who had the same knowledge of the situation in Famagusta District Cadastral Office.
According to the union, there were reports from the woman's colleagues that there was insufficient staffing and a huge workload in the said Office. The deceased lost consciousness around 7:10 a.m. of 29/08/2018 upon entering the building that houses her service and after facing health problems (migraines and with her eyes). The woman was a low-key person, conscientious and always performed, in full, the duties assigned to her by her superiors, as reported by her colleagues.
The assignment continues, "sometimes it was done in a compelling way (that is, they had to be done in a very short time) regardless of whether it was possible or not to do it, without asking her if she was able to respond. Due to the anxiety / fear of losing her job (because a specific supervisor made such or similar reports, in the presence of herself and other colleagues, in order to cause fear, in general, to the staff) she never refused to do the job assigned to her, although the existing burden it had to handle was excessive ".
The woman, as the union reveals, with the help of a colleague, had prepared an application for early retirement after she had run out of any reserves of patience and willingness to continue working.
At the same time, the union complains that, "based on the same reports, the same situation is faced by a number of colleagues at the District Cadastral Office of Famagusta. For this situation, these colleagues, for about two months now, intended to submit a report to the competent authorities ".
According to the interpretative provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1996 to 2015, "" health "in relation to work, implies not only the absence of illness or disability but also includes the physical, mental and emotional elements that affect health. and which is directly related to safety and health at work ".
The Pancyprian Equality Guild concludes the announcement, "is able to know that neither in the Public, nor of course in the Private sector, the relevant legislation is effectively implemented. It is time for those responsible for its non-implementation to be held accountable and for measures to be taken so that it is implemented, so that we do not mourn other victims. "But we do not want to victimize anyone."
