PROTARAS: The coastal promenade is being expanded at a cost of 20 million euros

The final positive opinion was given by the Department of Environment to the promenade in Protaras, which is being expanded at a cost of approximately 20 million euros.

According to the Phileleftheros newspaper, after the final opinion, the way is opened for the implementation of the extension of the coastal promenade, which will cost approximately €20 million, with the cost to be covered by 66% by the state and the rest by the Municipality of Paralimni.

According to what the mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, reported in the Phileleftheros newspaper, the intention is to announce tenders around the middle of 2024 and by the end of the year to start the works, which will last 24 months, assuming that no problems will arise along the way.

The new addition to the pedestrian walkway will be 9 kilometers long. It will start from the new marina which is expected to be operational next summer and will reach the administrative boundaries of the Municipalities of Paralimni and Deryneia, at the height of the United Nations coastal outpost according to what you mention in the newspaper.

The Mayor of Paralimni stated that "with the completion of the pedestrian walkway, someone will be able to travel from Kappari to Protaras by bicycle, roller skates, or electric scooter, without needing a car." He added that there are plans for further expansion of the pedestrian street after the Naufsika hotel (Phase 5).

The project will be a continuation of the third phase of the formation of the coastal zone of the Municipality of Paralimni, which starts from the Golden Coast area.

According to the design, it includes a pedestrian and bicycle path, small platforms, seating areas, light shelter, urban equipment and tree plantings. Together, the footpath and cycle path will be 8 meters wide (5m for the footpath and 3m for the cycle path).

The goals of the project, according to the Municipality of Paralimni, are to strengthen the relationship between man and the natural landscape and to strengthen the ecotourism and recreation infrastructures, which yield significant economic benefits.
