Proposal for a sculpture in Ayia Napa "Guardian Angel of Kindness and Peace"

The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Giannos Karousos and members of the Municipal Council, received on Friday, November 11, 2016, at the City Hall, the renowned Russian sculptor, Petr Stronsky. Stronsky, who is also President of the International Academy of Culture and Arts of Russia, will donate to the City of Ayia Napa a sculpture with the theme "Guardian Angel of Kindness and Peace". The purpose of the Russian artist's visit was to discuss the details of the statue and to choose a location for its installation. The artist will suggest the space he considers the most suitable for the promotion of the statue and his selection will be ratified at an upcoming meeting of the Municipal Council of Ayia Napa.

The statue of the Angel will be made of metal, fiberglass and will be gilded. It will be three meters high and will weigh 600 kilos. The cost of its construction will be entirely financed by Russian businessmen. The Municipality of Ayia Napa will bear only the costs of transporting the statue from Moscow to Cyprus and installing it.

Peter Stronsky donated similar statues to cities with close ties to Russia and especially to the country's International Academy of Culture and Arts. An Angel was recently donated to the Russian city of Niagara, which holds an image, and since 2014 such a sculpture adorns the coastal front of Cannes in the South of France. The Angel of Cannes raises the Golden Palm in his hands. In 2012 another Angel, holding a dove, was placed on a tall pillar on Lake Balaton in Hungary. Similar statues have been erected in Slovakia, but also in Ierissos, Greece.

Stronsky chose to donate the sculpture of the "Guardian Angel" in Cyprus, in honor of Russia's long-standing close relations with our country and also because the International Academy of Culture and Arts of Russia maintains a branch in Cyprus. The director of the branch is the art historian, Maria Pafiti, who in 2011 at a ceremony held in Moscow was named an honorary academic of the Academy. When Stronski proposed the donation of the sculpture to Cyprus, Pafiti suggested that it be given to the Municipality of Ayia Napa, which is perhaps the most visited on our island and thus serves the idea of creating Angelos, which is the promotion of public consciousness. of the universal values of friendship and brotherhood between people.

Angelos will be placed in Ayia Napa in 2017 and is expected to be a milestone, which according to the artist will promote multicultural understanding and cooperation internationally, especially with the cities that already host the "Guardian Angel".
