The receipts of the Municipality of Ag. Napa from beach management

A significant increase in revenue in the Municipality of Ayia Napa was noted this year by the management of the beaches (beds and beach umbrellas), with Mayor Giannis Karousos referring to revenues by the end of the tourist season that will exceed 2,5 million euros.

As Mr. Karousos stated in KYPE, after the start of the management of the beaches by the Municipality and with the completion of about half of the tourist season, “there is a significant increase of our income from the beds and the umbrellas. We estimate that our revenues for this year will exceed 2,5 million euros ".

He added that "last year, when it was managed by individuals, the revenue of the Municipality of Ayia Napa was around 600 thousand euros only. That is, this year we have tripled the amount we received last year and we even expect to quadruple it ".

With almost half of the tourist season having passed, Mr. Karousos noted "the Municipality has collected around one and a half million euros while by the end of the tourist season we estimate that the revenues will amount to around 2,5 million euros and this may amount to be exceeded ".

He also stated that "these revenues will be invested and returned in a specific way back to the citizens of Ayia Napa, in one of the ways that is being studied to be a small reduction of taxes to the Municipality".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Karousos said that "the income has been calculated based on the beds and umbrellas managed by the Municipality of Ayia Napa on its beaches, except for some plots that are managed by individuals. This amount does not include the fees that the Municipality will receive from individuals who place beds and umbrellas on their own plots. The amounts from the water sports have not been calculated either ".

The Mayor of Ayia Napa expressed his satisfaction with the revenues of the Municipality from the management of the beaches, adding that about 25 new jobs have been created for the beaches. "In addition, the comments about the beaches that we receive from both Cypriots and foreign visitors are very positive, which forces us to try harder to have a better result in the next tourist season," he said.
