€ 3,1 million in Greek Cypriot vacations in the occupied territories

Dozens of Greek Cypriots spend their holidays in hotels in the occupied territories, most of whom also bet in casinos. The numbers from the visa payments speak for themselves and confirm that a large number of our compatriots prefer the hotels that operate in the occupied areas for their summer holidays.

According to JCC data, in July alone, 1.589 credit card transactions were made for the amount of 361.101 euros in hotels in the occupied territories, while throughout 2017, 3,1 million euros were spent on hotels.

In fact, the Greek Cypriots have specific preferences in hotels, since they resort to those that recently operated in Kyrenia or in the area of Vokolida.

This is the largest amount spent on occupations this year, followed by spending on casinos. Specifically, until July, eight thousand transactions were made with visas for the amount of 485.625 euros for casinos, while only in July, 220.000 euros were spent in casinos from Greek Cypriot cards.

Online purchases of airline tickets to Turkey through the occupied territories have also increased. For 2017, the purchases reached 283.000 euros for airline tickets from the illegal airport of Tympos to Turkey. In July alone, these purchases amounted to 72.000 euros.
