24 hours after the abduction of the four-year-old, MARIE ELENI GRIMSRUD, by two hooded men outside a kindergarten in Dasoupoli in Nicosia, the Police investigations to locate her continue fruitlessly. Norwegian media report, citing the 49-year-old's lawyer, that the little girl is with her father and is in good health, without giving information about their whereabouts.
According to the Norwegian lawyer, his purpose is to return his daughter to Norway and he has already submitted a request to the Norwegian authorities, based on the Hague Treaty, which has also been sent to the Cypriot authorities.
Torkel Grimsrud claims that the little girl was abducted by a Cypriot mother from Norway, who considers it to be his legal residence.
A spokesman for the Norwegian Organized Crime Unit told Norwegian state television that information was being provided to the Cypriot police and that anything else had been requested to investigate the girl's abduction.
The lawyer of the girl's mother, Laris Vrachimis, stated that according to information, the father was indeed in Cyprus and, as he said, he is the only one who could organize the abduction and logically the little one must be somewhere in Cyprus with him.
Mr. Vrachimis admitted that there is a history in the case, as in February 2016 an attempt was made to abduct the child again, with instructions from the father.
Mr. Vrachimis rejected the claim of the Norwegian father that the child was abducted by the mother from Norway.
The father, he explained, went to the Norwegian courts alone, claiming that MARIE ELENI should be in Norway, a request which was rejected by the Norwegian court, given that the child always had a residence in Cyprus and went to Norway for short trips to see the father.
Therefore, he said, the Cypriot courts have jurisdiction.
The mother's lawyer clarified that initially the couple was not separated, the father came regularly to Cyprus and saw the child and
the mother went to Norway whenever she had leave from work and the purpose was at some point the father to move his business to Cyprus and settle permanently on the island.
At one point, however, the Norwegian changed his mind, without informing the mother, and on a trip to Norway with her daughter, removed their passports to stay in the country.
The woman lodged a complaint with the Cyprus Police and the Ministry of Justice for abduction and the case was taken to the Cypriot judiciary, which ordered the immediate return of the child to Cyprus and so they returned to the island.
According to Mr. Vrachimis, the dimension of the couple has started since then.
