In statements after the end of the Cabinet Meeting, the Government Spokesman explained that the compensation is provided as Cyprus Airways is permanently at a disadvantage vis-έναν-vis other airlines due to the ban on overflights in Turkish airspace, which, he said, raises the cost of flights since they are longer and longer routes.
He also explained that the methodology used to calculate the compensation is the same as that used for the period 2004-2010, amounting to 20 million euros, which had been agreed with Eurocontrol.
He finally stated that the Minister of Finance will submit to the House of Representatives a relevant bill for approval of the specific amount.
