Pan. Cyprus: In 76th place out of a total of 7.804 organizations

Among the top 100 organizations of the "Horizon 2020" program, he managed to finish the University of Cyprus. In particular, the Cypriot academic institution ranked 76th out of a total of 7.804 organizations funded under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.

The ranking results are even more flattering, given the size of the country. In this case, our University takes by far the first place in Europe, in the success of a number of projects of "Horizon 2020".

Data on the projects and organizations that received funding from the program were recently published by the European Commission (refers to proposals submitted by December 2014). Based on the available data, a thorough analysis of the more than 4.000 projects coordinated by 7.804 organizations with funding was carried out.

According to the relevant research, countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom are very successful, while the position of Cyprus, despite its size, is remarkable, since it holds the 26th. Specifically, the Cypriot institutions secured € 9,8 million from the "Horizon 2020" program. Another important element worth mentioning is the fact that Cyprus ranks first among the EU Member States in terms of submitting proposals for funding - 850 proposals bear the Cypriot stamp and in the next place is Luxembourg with 666.

Especially for the University of Cyprus, the institution plays an important role in the framework program "scientific excellence". It also leads the "spreading excellence and widening participation" program, which aims to maximize investment in research and innovation, with secured funding of € 3 million.

It is noted that in recent years, the University has developed a rapid increase in research programs and research grants, having a dynamic presence in both international and European research. It participates in 128 EU research projects, as well as other externally funded projects, securing an inflow of over € 7,5 million into its coffers.

"Members of our academic staff continue their dynamic participation in European research programs for the year 2015," said the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Konstantinos Christofidis, expressing the belief that "in the next comparative reports, Cyprus will hold an even higher position ".
