Greek Cypriots beat the rest of the occupied casinos

The Cypriots spent more than five million euros in plastic money for holidays in the occupied territories, casinos and airline tickets to Turkey through the occupied territories.

There is an increase in the amounts played in casinos and in terms of tickets compared to 2014, while a small decrease is observed in stays in illegal hotels.

According to official figures from the financial institution JCC, a large portion of individuals are now constantly spending significant sums on purchases in the occupied territories related to their leisure.

According to the data, in 2015, 5 million 158 thousand euros were spent only for casinos, hotel stays and tickets for Turkey.

Specifically, € 1,2 million was spent on tickets compared to € 1,1 in 2014, for casinos the amounts spent in '15 reached € 1,5 million compared to € 1,2 in '14 and for hotel stays last year cost € 2,3 million compared to € 2,5 million in '14.

If the amounts paid for these three categories in Turkey by credit cards are calculated, then the total amount reaches eight million euros. According to the data kept every month, the summer months show an increased movement of Greek Cypriots who go to the occupied territories and bet on casinos, as in December.

Also, from data of the Police, it appears that a large group of Greek Cypriots goes mainly on Friday or Saturday to the occupied areas in order to play in the casinos, while staying in hotels.

The clothing markets from the occupied areas are increased, since in 2015 450,520 euros were spent on clothing and footwear. Above are the total purchases for fuel (136 thousand euros) as well as for purchases in the health sector (46 thousand euros) which mainly concern expenditures for the purchase of medicines.
