Salary is taboo for employers

The good old days when employers and employees were also "friends" seem to be over. 76% of employees were never asked by their employer about their family. Only one in 10 employers asked the employee if he was satisfied with his salary.

The disproportionately large task assignment combined with the confusion of roles and responsibilities and the lack of means to achieve the goals, are a source of stress for the employee.

Half of the employees, who participated in the survey of the Cyprus Health and Safety Association-SYAK, stated that they are responsible for excessive responsibilities and almost 40% stated that the assigned goals are unrealistic for various reasons.

The reason for the research on work stress, conducted by SYAK and written in our previous edition. The online survey involved 523 employees of both sexes. According to the participants, 79% do not realize that substantial efforts are being made by the employer to reduce work stress, while 21% stated that measures are being taken to minimize it.

However, Ministry of Labor officials agreed that the road remains long until the workplace causes less stress to the employee. The same executives stated that in the inspections of work premises the employer is asked in the risk assessment to take into account the stressful causes of psychosomatic stress. They noted that the biggest shortcomings in the capital of reducing work stress are observed in small businesses.

Also, regarding the findings of the SYAK research, the answers of the participants to the question, if their management has ever asked whether they are satisfied with their salary, were interesting. The result is overwhelming, with 90% answering negatively and only 10% giving an affirmative answer. Also, to the question whether the Management was ever interested in whether the employee's family is having a good time, the participants with a percentage of 76% answered negatively and only 24% positively.

Meanwhile, yesterday, the Ministry of Labor organized the event of the closing ceremony of the week of safety and health, with the theme of work stress. The Minister of Labor, Zeta Aimilianidou, presented awards to participants in competitions on the occasion of Safety and Health Week.
