Fotiou: Negotiations are at a critical juncture

The assessment that the meetings that are taking place these days, until September 14, the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis, with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, seems to play a catalytic role in the developments in the Cyprus issue and will be one of the most critical phases of the negotiations. , stated today the Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou.

In a speech at the event in memory and honor of the heroes of the Community of Argaki Morfos that took place on Sunday night in the Events Hall of the Holy Temple of Agios Spyridon Strovolos, Mr. Fotiou stressed that the Greek Cypriot side participates in this process with a constructive mood. but also with determination to achieve the solution that will ensure the functioning of the state and will ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens in conditions of security and peaceful coexistence.

At the same time, he pointed out, the intentions of the Turkish side are being tested, which is called upon to go through the declarations of goodwill, in practice.

During his speech, Mr. Fotiou said on the issue of missing persons that unfortunately, hundreds of families of our compatriots still bear the unbearable burden of ignorance of their loved ones since forty-two years later we are still looking for 1.014 of the 1.508 registered Greek Cypriots and Greeks.

"And this is because of the refusal of the occupying power to cooperate to the extent necessary to ascertain their fate," he explained.

There are, he stressed, great difficulties in the work of the Commission of Inquiry into Missing Persons because no other bones of Greek Cypriots and Greek missing persons are found in the occupied areas. "DEA's statistics are at a dangerous stage and we are very afraid that if this situation continues, DEA's work will be affected," he said.

In the context of the event, the fallen, the wounded, the prisoners and the missing of the Community of Argaki were honored.

Specifically honored the fallen Doros Charalambous Andronikos Brunette, Elias Pelavas, missing Michael Avaratzis, Paul Hadjipavlou Michael Charalambous and George Merakligiannis wounded war Spyros Brunette, Yiannakis Kasapis and Michael Loizou, prisoners Kyriakos Stylianou Christos Kaourmas Costas capsule, Chris Kapsoulis, Andreas Kasapis but also Androniki Kkoufa who opened her house and turned it into a hospital for the treatment of war wounded.
