Students: Confusion with the essay affected performance

The drop in the average in Modern Greek to 7,97 in 2015 from 9,48 in 2014, proves, in addition to the fact that the educational system is unable to properly prepare students for the exams, that the confusion that prevailed in the subject of the essay of the Young Greek for the Pancyprian Examinations 2015, significantly affected the performance of students, states, in an announcement, PSEM.

He adds that as PSEM they have since complained that students should not be victimized and that the Ministry of Education should find ways to correct the writing, taking into account the confusion caused.

"Unfortunately, the test results show that the way the lessons are taught in the school does not help the students to consolidate and cultivate critical thinking, with the students being forced to rely on the storage of knowledge, which is lost as soon as the exams are over. That is why we stressed in our previous announcements, that it is not possible for the Ministry of Education to proceed with a change in the Timetables, without this being done in parallel with the changes in the Curricula. "No matter how many hours we teach a lesson, if the way and method of teaching does not change, the results will remain the same and worse", he adds.

He states, at the same time, that they will not accept the exploitation of the results by the Ministry, to justify the conservative changes in the Schedule Programs that they promote.

"The proposals of the Ministry have caused a storm of reactions, both from parties and educational organizations, as well as from us students. We reiterate our disagreement with the philosophy of the Ministry's proposal and our position to suspend the implementation of the FES for September 2016. We call for a meaningful dialogue, respecting the views of all stakeholders. These changes will affect public education and students for years. No one has the right to act unilaterally and make decisions on such important issues, without even the majority of the bodies concerned to agree to these changes. "If the Ministry continues to act in the same way, the responsibility for any failure will fall exclusively on that one", concludes PSEM, in its announcement.
