Five dead after a mosque attack in Canada

Five people were killed by fire during evening prayers at a mosque in Quebec City, according to the mosque's president. Two people were arrested after the shooting, according to a police spokesman who confirmed the deaths and injuries.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Reuters, heavily armed police entered the mosque after the incident that started at 8:00 p.m. local time yesterday (3:00 am Greek time today). Police spokesman Etienne Doyon declined to say if there were any gunmen in the building.

There were 40 people inside the mosque and the gunmen appear to have been three, according to witnesses.

Quebec police announced on Twitter that the situation at the mosque has been brought under control. According to the same post, the facilities of the mosque are under the control of the police, while it has been evacuated.

Terrorists behind the attack on the Quebec mosque

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trinto called the attack on the mosque in Quebec a "terrorist attack on Muslims." "We condemn the terrorist attack on Muslims in a prayer and shelter center," he said in a statement.

The local prime minister of the province of Quebec in Canada also described the attack on the mosque at the time of prayer, during which five people were killed, as a "terrorist act".
