Nikolas Papadopoulos: The intermediate space will win the presidential ones

The middle ground will have a candidate, who will pass on the second Sunday and win the presidential elections, said today the president of DIKO, Nikolas Papadopoulos, who in response to criticism said that "we do not exclude any citizen, any voter, the The only one who considers AKEL a given is Nikos Anastasiadis, as they have been supporting him uninterruptedly for four years ".

In statements on the sidelines of the 15th annual memorial of the former President of the Republic, Spyros Kyprianou, in Limassol, Mr. Papadopoulos said that the Executive Office of DIKO has unanimously set the party's goal for the next presidential election.

"We consider and seek a change of the current government in order to achieve a change of policies, both in terms of the Cyprus issue, the economy and the issues concerning the welfare state," he said, adding that in order to achieve this goal, we consider that the cooperation of the parties in the intermediate space is needed and required ".

Responding to criticism, the President of DIKO said that "we do not exclude any citizen, any voter. The only one that AKEL takes for granted is Nikos Anastasiadis, as they supported him uninterruptedly for four years ".

Asked if he agrees with Giorgos Lillikas and Marino Sizopoulos for a joint candidacy, he replied that "not only do I agree but I want to assure everyone that the middle ground will have a candidate, he will pass the elections on the second Sunday and win the presidential election".

Referring to the Cyprus issue, Nikolas Papadopoulos said that we are in an undeclared impasse in the negotiations due to the Turkish intransigence "but also the wrong strategy we are following".

He called on "the supporters of any solution to answer a torturous question, what is the reason that Nikos Anastasiadis, who gave all or almost everything in the negotiations, failed to bring a solution?".

"The answer is that, unfortunately, the policy of concessions and tradition that did not curb Turkish intransigence, on the contrary, encouraged it, Turkey became intimidated and now wants more. "That is exactly why we need a new strategy in the Cyprus issue," he added.

Asked if he sees any mobility in the Cyprus issue in 2017, he replied that "things are very difficult due to Turkish intransigence but also the wrong strategy we follow. "We need a new strategy on the Cyprus issue that will bring political costs to Turkey for not resolving it."
